LEON LASSITER Obituary

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Mr. Leon Lassiter was born November 29, 1950 in Scotland Neck, NC and passed away on Monday, December 29, 2008 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC.  He was born third of five children to John Henry Lassiter, Sr. and the late Cora Lassiter.  Leon was blessed with a generous and friendly personality, and was beloved of all who knew him. Leon left Scotland Neck to join the United States Army in 1970.  While in the military, he met and married Toni Joannides, with whom he enjoyed harmonious marriage until his passing.   They had a daughter, Michele and settled in Fayetteville, NC.  Leon retired from the Army in 1991 after rising to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2.  He later worked for the United State Post Office until he retired in 2007.  He was a beloved figure in the community, and will be fondly remembered for the joy he brought to people’s lives. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Toni Lynne Lassiter of Stoneham, Mass.; his daughter and son-in-law, Michele & Ronald Smith of Clinton, NC; his father, John Henry Lassiter, Sr. of Scotland Neck; his brother and sister-in-law, John Henry Lassiter, Jr. and Catherine Lassiter of Scotland Neck; his sister, Ethel Mutts of New Jersey; and host of nieces, nephew, family and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Scotland Neck Auditorium with the Rev. Jimmy Lowe officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction of New Beginnings Funeral Service, 3221 U.S. Highway 258, Rich Square.
