JOSEPH HENRY GORDON, JR.

SCOTLAND NECK, NC: Mr. Joseph Henry Gordon, Jr., 59, formally of Rich Square, NC, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Our Community Hospital, Scotland Neck, NC. Joseph Henry Gordon, Jr. began his journey on February 23, 1955. He was born to Joseph Henry and Annie Elizabeth Gordon, Sr., in Rich Square, North Carolina. He was an only child. Joseph attended Creecy Elementary School and Ahoskie High School.  He then went on to pursue his education at North Carolina Central University and Fayetteville Technical Community College where he earned his Associates Degree in Funeral Service and Mortuary Science.  Upon completing his education he returned to Rich Square to direct the family-owned and operated Gordon Funeral Home.  Later he went on to work with the staff at New Beginnings Funeral Service. Joseph attended First Baptist Church of Rich Square, North Carolina.  He loved people and enjoyed spending quality time with loved ones and friends.  He also enjoyed traveling, singing and making people smile. On January 8, 2015, at 5:30 a.m., Joseph flew softly away to rest in the arms of God. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Henry Gordon, Sr. and his mother, Annie Elizabeth Gordon. He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Amanda Gordon-Redmon (Seth) of Durham, North Carolina Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Rich Square, NC, with Rev. William Clark officiating.  A viewing will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
